Eyes are important as we all know .How well you need to safe guard and maintain is a practice note to note.
Improve your eyesight -------------------- some tips
Regular practice of these eye exercises will help improve eyesight and help to maintain further deterioration to the eyesight.
1. Palming - 5 times
2. Open your eyes wide and tightly close
3. Palming.
4. Sitting straight take your hands to either sides, shoulder level with the thumbs raised. See the left thumb, and then focus on your eyebrow center and then to the right thumb - 5 times - each side without turning the head.
5. Palming.
6. Diagonal viewing - place left hand on the left thigh your thumb raised and the right hand on the right side shoulder level - viewing diagonally- Look at the left thumb, eye brow center and then right thumb - 5 times each sides.
7. Palming.
8. Up and down - view the thumb of the right hand, raise the right hand up and down, five times, repeat the same with the left hand thumb.
9. Palming.
10. Eye Rotation -raise the right hand, thumbs up - looking at the thumb rotate the hand clock wise and anti clockwise. Five times each side
11. Palming.
12. Place the thumb in front and then look at the thumb moving to the sides three times see both the sides with the head held straight in front. Simultaneously - then bring the right hand to the right side and back focusing on the thumb all the time -and now left hand to the sides and back - both sides. Five times each side.
13. Palming.
14. Nasikagra mudra: Hold the right hand stretched in front, looking at the nail of the thumb bring the thumb close to the nose almost touching the nose then take it back to the starting point. Repeat this five times and then do the same with the left hand thumb.
15. Palming.
16. Chakshu Beda: Sitting straight in padmasana or Vajrasana, with the eyes opened and held wide with the index finger and the middle finger close the ears with the thumb. Now inhaling close the nostrils with the ring fingers and rotate the eyes clockwise and anticlockwise with the holded breathe how much ever times you can and then exhale. Repeat the same for five breaths to start with continue the practice to ten times.
17. Palming five times. Then lie down in shavasan.
POINTS TO NOTE
Many people wear glasses or contact lenses to improve the vision, but rarely improvement in eyesight is noticed. In fact it worsens necessitating even more powerful lenses.
Factors that contribute to bad eyesight:
- Bad lighting.
- Prolonged television or video watching.
- Poor diet.
- Muscle inefficiency due to prolonged office work or study.
- Mental and emotional tension.
- Toxic conditions of the body.
- Ageing.
Diet affects not only the health of the eyes but also the whole body. Avoiding heavy, indigestible, oily, spicy, tinned, repacked, processed, junk food will help rectify poor vision. A reduction of non-vegetarian food is recommended. Relaxed awareness and good posture will develop the ability. Try to depend less on use of glasses. Use when absolutely necessary. Leave them during leisure time. This will help the eyes to adjust and help start functioning normally. The habit of walking on bare feet, on the grass or earth especially in the early morning will have relaxing and beneficial effect on the eyes. The reflex connection between the sole of the feet and visual areas of the brain helps to improve vision. The eye exercise should be practiced regularly with patience and perseverance. Do not expect instant cure or improvement. It takes years for the eye to become defective; similarly it may take a few months of regular practice to note the progress.
Preparations:
It is good to splash cold water into the eyes a few times. Hold a little water in the palms above the water basin and splash it on the eyelids, this will stimulate blood supply and generally tone up the eyes. Do this 10 times and then begin the practice.
Practice notes:
Eye exercise should be performed one after the other as given. It should be practiced once early in the morning and once in the evening. The important thing to remember during practice is to be totally relaxed. Do not strain as this will lead to fatigue and tiredness of the eyes. The facial muscles, eyebrows and eyelids should be totally relaxed. Glasses or contact lenses should not be worm while performing the exercises.
