Differently enabled / Physically challenged

By Sanjeev Krishnan

The capability of the human brains is immense. Despite physical and mental capabilities, most of the time we underutilize them out of sheer laziness, lethargy or wrong perspective.

A child who is differently enabled or physically challenged can also achieve what would seem impossible. For this we need to support him in all respects. There are different kinds of physically challenged children, spastics [children with cerebral palsy], autistic children, mentally retarded children, physically handicapped etc.

If we look at each one of them they have their own capabilities and weakness. It is for us as parents and teachers to help them to the extent possible. Patience, perseverance, calmness and the strength to accept these children is the first and the foremost challenge that the parents must face. Once this is achieved the children can be moulded. The growth and well being of these innocent children of God all depend on the parents. If some ability is deficient in these children, in some way some other capability is existent, which has to be understood and worked on.

All these children can be brought into the mainstream. And these are the children who really need support. Instances of their achievements in various fields have already been proved.

Hence never ever feel that they are not fit for normal life. It is each one of us who has to contribute to make them happy, self sufficient and strong. We have to help them deal with their lives, face challenges and progress towards achievement, happiness and peace.
